By now you know that we’ve been very hands-on with helping runners prepare for the most prestigious global city race, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. Our exciting sponsorship deal is set to elevate the overall experience for entrants of some of South Africa’s biggest and most celebrated sporting events, and Sanlam Cape Town Marathon runners will have access to our training facilities even if they’re not members when they sign up to participate in the free training events: TimeTrials, Long Runs and Track sessions.

The race is for athletes who aim to achieve fast times, and for first-timers who want to finish their inaugural marathon. Along the Cape Town city route, you will take in the famous natural and historic icons, Table Mountain and the ocean, as well as many of the city’s spectacular vistas and iconic attractions.

Get race day ready with us with weekly experiences to prepare you for the marathon by registering to secure your slot.

Tuesday Time Trials | 5pm-6pm

The goal of Time Trials is to run a hard effort for a given distance, to get a sense of where the runner’s fitness is at. When repeated over the course of a few months leading up to the marathon, time trials can be used to give an indication of how your fitness is progressing.

We run from a variety of Virgin Active Clubs every Tuesday evening at 5pm . Check out the schedule and sign up here to join us for a free 5km Tuesday Time Trial!

Track Thursdays | 5pm-6pm

As part of our pursuit to help runners of all fitness levels improve their performance, technique, and speed in preparation for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, we have been hosting weekly complimentary track sessions in Cape Town and Joburg.

These sessions will take place weekly on a Thursday at the University of Johannesburg Athletics Track and Western Province Athletics Track, from 5pm.

Sign-up here to get your training on Track next Thursday in Jozi or Cape Town.

Saturday Long Runs | 7am

The main purpose of long runs is to increase endurance and stamina in the lead up to the marathon and to build tight-knit training communities that runners can lean on for support.

Saturday Long Runs will depart from Virgin Active Table View, Virgin Active Green Point, Virgin Active Paarl & Virgin Active Stellenbosch on a rotating schedule, starting at 7am.
