We’re sharing the love this year by donating machines and equipment we’re no longer using to The Enable Centre in Cape Town. They are an outpatient physical and cognitive rehabilitation facility in Cape Town, consisting of an interdisciplinary team of biokineticists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists as well as a neuro and clinical psychologist.

Their aim? To provide therapy to all who need it.

The Enable Initiative

The Enable Initiative is their non-profit division, which bridges the gap between private and public healthcare. They tackle complex cases using a science-driven approach and focus on what an individual can gain rather than lose, nurturing a positive environment for healing.

To help them achieve their goal of equal therapy for all, they’ve launched the Equal Access Programme. To qualify, a patient’s yearly household income (divided by dependents) is reviewed by the team and then divided into a subsidy level, which determines what the patient’s contribution per session will be. The less household income, the less the patient contributes.

We hope the machines and equipment we donated (listed below) will help many on the road to recovery;

  • Leg extension
  • Large leg raise bench
  • Seated leg press
  • Cable machine 1 of 2
  • Cable machine 2 of 2
  • Adjustable bench 1 of 2
  • Adjustable bench 2 of 2
  • Cable crossover 1 of 2
  • Cable crossover 2 of 2
  • Tricep dip machine
  • Squat rack & barbell
  • Smith machine
  • Assorted weight plates & weight tree
  • Dumbbells from 1kg to 25kg

Why did we choose the Enable Centre?

Virgin Active’s vision is to engage people, inspire them and activate positive change in their lives by promoting health and well-being. Our Donations Committee ensures that all donations are made fairly and objectively, and we look at businesses that support one or more of the following initiatives;

  • Working with the differently abled community
  • Working with children
  • Working with the elderly

The Enable Centre met the criteria with their Enable Initiative, and it was an easy choice for us to donate machines and equipment to them.

“We at the Enable Centre are extremely grateful to Virgin Active for the support they have shown. The equipment received is going to help dozens on their road to recovery after a life-changing injury or diagnosis. Thank you!” – Dr Robert Evans from the Enable Centre.
