The wellness industry is full of quick fixes and fads, but real wellness isn’t about chasing trends – it’s about building habits that last. For Hylton Arendse, our Creative Studio Manager, this journey began with a simple goal: to complete the Warrior Challenge injury-free. What he didn’t expect was that working with a Personal Trainer (PT) would transform not only his exercise routine but his entire approach to health and confidence.

Like many people, Hylton initially saw the ‘old-school style gym’ as a place to tick off a goal. But that changed when his wife introduced him to Jamille Smythe. “I was training on the treadmill when my wife brought Jamille over,” Hylton recalls. “It was the boost I didn’t know I needed.”

At first, his focus was solely on getting through the Warrior Challenge. But Jamille encouraged him to think bigger – beyond a single milestone and toward a sustainable, long-term wellness journey.

With each session, Hylton’s mindset evolved. Exercise was no longer about hitting one goal – it became part of his lifestyle. “Jamille made sure every session had a clear purpose. Over time, my approach shifted. I wasn’t just training for an event; I was building a foundation for life.”

One of the biggest lessons? Confidence comes from consistency. “Jamille always said, ‘I’m training you so that one day, you can do this on your own – and even help others!’ That stuck with me,” says Hylton.

Jamille reflects on Hylton’s progress: “From day one, he showed incredible dedication. My role was to guide him, but his success came from his own hard work and willingness to embrace the process. Seeing him grow stronger, both physically and mentally, has been inspiring.”

For the first time in 13 years, Hylton now weighs under 100 kg. But the transformation wasn’t just physical. “Mentally and emotionally, my routine gives me structure and balance. I start most mornings with a workout and never miss a session unless absolutely necessary. The feeling of beating my personal best is incredible.”

And the impact extends beyond himself. His wife has started training, and he confidently shares exercise tips with his kids. “The best part? I can actually keep up with them now!”

Hylton knows that stepping into a club – especially with a PT – can feel daunting. His advice: “Just have a chat over coffee or try a trial session. PTs aren’t just there to push you; they genuinely want to help. You’ll be amazed at how much easier and more enjoyable the journey becomes.”

His story is proof that real wellness isn’t about quick wins – it’s about finding the right support, building sustainable habits, and gaining the confidence to keep going. And that’s something that lasts far beyond the club.

From training with our PTs to trying out the work cubicles or a sauna session after a class, everything you need is inside.
