When your kids become Virgin Active members, you don’t get access to a creche, you get access to developmentally appropriate movement spaces where Active Kids go to thrive in a safe and secure environment.
We design new programmes in line with the lifespan model of motor development and the developmental phases of children and we have done this in collaboration with our scientific partners, Stellenbosch Kinderkinetics, Department of Sport Science, at the University of Stellenbosch. From infant to teenager, we offer tailored experiences for different age groups.

For the littles, we’ve created a safe and stimulating environment where they can nap and play while you’re at the gym. There is a temperature-controlled nursery with a fully equipped changing station and when baby’s up, we’ll keep them busy with age appropriate toys, soft play and movement equipment that have been designed or selected to promote development. We take safety very seriously and all our crew are paediatric first aid qualified and play areas are baby proofed. There is also strict access control to the facility and only the authorised adults will have permission to sign children in and out.
Designed in conjunction with Stellenbosch Kinderkinetics, our toddler programme focuses on improving the 9 key skills in the rudimentary phase of motor development:
Your little one will receive their own Report Card where progress is monitored each time they visit and they will receive a certificate of completion once all the skills are mastered. Nappy changes, sleeping and feeding moments are also recorded in the Report Card. There are no scheduled classes for this age group, they will do activities as and when they arrive.
Designed in conjunction with Stellenbosch Kinderkinetics, your kids will master fundamental motor development skills:
Children receive their own progress booklet, where we mark their progress and they’ll receive a certificate of completion once they’ve mastered Active Play.
The Grid Squad programme takes 6 primal movements and turns them into a fun introduction to the world of functional training.
Designed in-house, we offer a range of activities and classes for the older kiddos that will see them mastering a range of skills. From lunging and squatting to co-ordination and team work, your kids will spend their time with us having fun and developing key skills. Our Club-V Max facilities in 22 selected clubs are equipped to handle the needs of this age group. These classes are also offered in studio in our other clubs, and you can search for this on our club timetables. We offer several classes for this age group:

The safety of your kids is a top priority for us, and with Coronavirus and the social distancing recommendation, we have made a tough call to close temporarily close our kids facilities and cancel Holiday Camps across the country. Social distancing is difficult to enforce with kids at play. We apologise for the inconvenience, please bear with us and make alternative arrangements for your kids during this time.
Water safety and the ability to swim is a key life skill. Many of our clubs offer Learn to Swim programmes which have been developed to foster a lifelong love for water and nurture this essential skill. From baby and toddler classes where you accompany your little one in the pool to lessons for older children, our clubs are home to a variety of Learn to Swim options. Enquire at your club.
Our partnership with Virgin Active started with one common goal – to get kids active! Children are our future and getting them active at a young age will ensure healthy lifestyles. Coming from an academic point of view, Stellenbosch Kinderkinetics, adds to this partnership through scientific research, development of age-appropriate movement programmes and putting the ‘fun’ in fundamental. In turn, Virgin Active provides the opportunity for Stellenbosch University’s Kinderkinetics students to gain valuable experience within this world-class fitness environment.
